What's tested for
Standard drug tests screen for THC-COOH, the metabolite your body produces from Delta-9 THC. Modern tests don't distinguish source — hemp THC and marijuana THC produce identical metabolites.
How long it stays in your system
| User profile | Detection window (urine) |
|---|---|
| One-time / occasional | 3–7 days |
| Multiple times per week | 7–21 days |
| Daily | 30+ days |
| Heavy chronic | up to 90 days |
- Saliva test: 24–72 hours.
- Hair test: up to 90 days.
- Blood test: 1–2 days (12+ hours for occasional).
What about CBD / Delta-8 / HHC?
- Pure CBD isolate shouldn't trigger a THC test, BUT many CBD products contain trace THC that can build up.
- Delta-8, Delta-10, HHC: WILL trigger a positive on most THC drug tests. They share metabolites or test indistinguishably.
- THCV, CBN, CBG: generally won't trigger, but lab variability matters.
If your job drug-tests, the safe answer is don't use ANY THC product, including hemp-derived. Some pure CBD isolate products specifically labeled "0.0% THC" are the only realistic exception.
