Physical
- Relaxed muscles, slower heart rate at rest (but raised right after smoking — normal).
- Red eyes, dry mouth ("cottonmouth").
- Increased appetite ("the munchies").
- Pain reduction for many.
- Some people feel heavy / "couch-locked" with indica-leaning strains.
Cognitive
- Altered perception of time (a 5-minute song feels like 15).
- Heightened sensory experience — music, food, touch.
- Divergent thinking — making unexpected connections.
- Short-term memory changes — you may lose your train of thought mid-sentence. Normal, fades with the high.
Emotional
- Euphoria, calm, giggling, social warmth for most.
- Anxiety, paranoia, racing thoughts for some, especially at higher doses or with very-high-THC strains. CBD-heavy or terpene-rich strains help.
What it's NOT
- It's not a hallucinogen. You won't see things that aren't there.
- It's not a depressant or stimulant in the classical sense — it's its own category.
- It's not addictive in the same way nicotine or opioids are, but cannabis use disorder is real for a small subset of users (~9% of users, ~17% of those who start as teenagers).
